  • Summit Express - Faster, bigger, more modern. The Summit Express will get you to the top of the mountain faster than you ever thought possible! A faster lift means more runs per day! Chairs are larger than the old triple, giving you and your riding partners more elbow room and a more comfortable ride.
  • Maine's First Conveyor Loading System - Step on the moving conveyor and the chairlift whisks you up and off! Decreases stops and starts by 50%, making the chair run faster and more efficiently.
  • Snowmaking on Sunset Blvd - New last year, Sunset Blvd provided skiing and riding from the top of the mountain for lower intermediates and beginners.  Snowmaking will allow this popular trail to open earlier and close later in the season.
  • Additional air compressor - Shawnee Peak acquired a new air compressor for snowmaking operations, which means more late-season snowmaking capabilities when needed.

Shawnee Peak Conserves Land and Rare Woodland

Date: September 13, 2010
Author: Carrie Walia, Loon Echo Land Trust

Perched above Shawnee Peak's Sunset Blvd Trail is the North Peak of Pleasant Mountain. This peak is home to one of the best examples of a rare and unique Red Pine Woodland found only at remote and scattered mountain top sites throughout Maine and New England. Shawnee Peak is committed to preserving the 27 acre woodland (and the rare grass also found at this site). In addition, Shawnee Peak has conserved 61 acres of land just beyond the East Area with its partner Loon Echo Land Trust. This property is now under permanent conservation and hosts the popular Pleasant Mountain hiking trail network and Needle's Eye waterfall and gorge.

Green Initiatives

Skiers and riders who are concerned about climate change, environmental stewardship and other sustainability issues will be proud to call Shawnee Peak their “Maine Mountain!”

  • Decrease fossil fuel use in buildings and facilities by 50% over the last two years.
Increased solar use, building upgrades, addition of energy-efficient boilers and conservations efforts have enabled Shawnee Peak to lessen dependence on fossil fuels. Shawnee Peak’s new Great Room boasts R70 insulation, natural lighting (for decreased electricity needs) and all foam insulation.

  • Annual outdoor fossil fuel use (snowmaking, vehicles, etc) has decreased by 50% since 2007.
“No idle” policies, 100% increase in hi-efficiency snowguns, decrease in snowmobile use and other conservation efforts have resulted in a huge decrease in fossil fuel use.

  • Major Land Conservation Commitment with Loon Echo Land Trust
In 2010, at least 88 acres of land on top of Pleasant Mountain (owned by Shawnee Peak Holdings, Inc) have been reserved for wildlife habitat and unique flora conservation.
